We are delighted to announce that we are now in the final stages of starting a new engineering project in partnership with Newcastle University to develop gas control mechanisms and software.
5 final year students will be handpicked to test their mettle on the project which officially start on 27th September 2013.
You will probably know from our previous blogs that we have been prototyping a number of gas control ideas which manage the amount of gas sent to house hold appliances.
We see this as a massive area for development as most household are fitted with very poorly automated gas appliances. Most pre 2008 boilers are not fitted with modulating burners which means that any control of the heating water has to be done manually. This can be changed by interrogating the boilers CPU and adding sensors such as Lambda probes and external temperature monitors to make the boiler run much more efficiently and smoothly.
This can all be linked via an encrypted wifi link to an ipad, iphone or similar and managed by the home owner from the comfort of their living room.
The project has many challenges which will test the technical and creative minds of the students.
They will be supported by their tutors and we will be providing input and guidance on a weekly basis.
We are hoping to partner with a local training centre so that the control mechanisms can be test on live gas appliances in the safety of a training centre.
